Dana’s hair was the ideal length for a gorgeous high bun which we’re seeing so much of at the moment. It’s surprisingly easy, and can work on medium length hair too!

WE USED:

STEP ONE – BE A TEASE
Take a section from the front of your hair and tease it up to give the front section a bit more body.

STEP TWO – IT’S HIGH TIME
Pull the front section and the rest of your hair into the highest high pony you can. Hairspray the back and use your hand to set any stray hair straight.

Annica is the beauty and brains behind Haute and Stylish. H&S is a beauty and lifestyle blog which focuses on “looking haute on any budget”. Whether you only have $2 to spend, or $200, Annica believes every woman has the right to look haute regardless of their financial circumstances!

For Annica’s hair, we thought we’d spice things up with a tiny bit of colour. Pastel highlighting is everywhere right now – we chose a more unique apricot shade to warm things up for winter.

TIME NEEDED: 40 minutes

WE USED:
STEP ONE – USE YOUR BARTENDING SKILLS

We are all loving the product of the moment, the Kevin Murphy Colour Bug. These are fantastic for when you want a quick and colourful change for your hair.

For Annica, we went with something that would hold for a little longer and seeing as it was her first try at pastel colour, we went for something subtle. We mixed Revlon Nutricolor Creme (6g of 1003 and 1g of 734). These are available in a range of colours in salon, starting at $24.95 for 100ml or $49.95 for 250ml.

If you’re after some bold colour, you could also use a product like Fudge Paintbox and still follow the same steps.

STEP TWO –  BIT BY BIT
Section the hair so you can easily get to the bits that you want to colour. Then take the hair in small sections and using a brush, paint on the colour to the end of the hair. We decided to add a little under Annica’s fringe – if you try this yourself, just be sure to make it subtle. Once you’ve got an even placement of colour, leave for 10 minutes.

STEP THREE – THE UNVEILING
Gently rinse the colour from your hair using a colour protecting shampoo like Wella Colour Save Shampoo ($24.00).

STEP FOUR –  THE FINALE
Gently blowdry your hair, using a heat protectant, so you can see the full effect of your new colour. And you’re done!

For Sarah’s hair, we went for a undone, beachy wave with a feature braid. This style is perfect for those days where you’re short on time to wash your hair but still want to look smokin’.

TIME NEEDED: 20 minutes – give or take, depending on how good you are at braiding.

WE USED:

STEP ONE – FIRST THINGS FIRST
Apply a head protectant to your hair. We have used Wella Thermal Image Spray ($24.00). Then divide your hair into large sections, keeping two at the front which we will use to braid a bit later.

STEP TWO – LET’S GET CURLING
Starting at the back. Using a GHD (or similar) start at the roots and pull away from the scalp slowly as you turn the GHD a full 180 degrees. Hold for a few seconds, and then move down the hair an inch and repeat but this time turn the GHD the opposite direction to late time. Do this back and forth until you get to the end of the hair. You want to curl all of your hair apart from the two sections at the front, and hairspray as you go. We used Re-Shaper by Sebastian Professional ($32.00).

STEP THREE – NOW TO GET UNDONE
Apply a texture building product like LO’real Super Dust to your curls and work it in with your fingers (think of the way people use their fingers to signal cash – you want to do that to the ends of your hair).

STEP FOUR –  THE FRONTLINE
We’ve used a H2D X3, but you can use a GHD or something similar for this. Curl these sections as you would normally, and make sure you turn GHD out and away from your face. Repeat this on the other side. Throw some more Super Dust onto these sections too, and repeat that cash fingers technique to work it in.

At this point, you’re probably already looking pretty damn good. But if you want to take it a little further, let’s get some braid action happening.

STEP FIVE – BACK TO PRIMARY SCHOOL
Start the braid quite loose and begin braiding as normal. As you braid, you are only to pull in extra hair from the top (not the bottom). For the bottom strands, you want to leave half of the hair to dangle down each time you pull it back up into the braid.

It’s meant to look rough and beachy, so if it doesn’t look perfect you’re actually getting it right. If you would like to go for the waterfall braid look, why not make it two?

STEP SIX – FOR A SECOND BRAID
Start a little lower and repeat the same process but make sure you’re bringing the strands of hair we left to dangle from the first braid into the second one. Hold in place with a bobby pin while you repeat this on the other side and then join them in the middle, being sure to hide your bobbys under some hair! Hairspray again to hold.

Katy is the lady behind the Katy Potaty blog, and also goes by Katy Potaty the Cupcake Lady. She was a child of the 80′s, a teenager of the 90′s, and a retail worker of the Noughties. This explains her love of Jen Aniston’s hair, The Lion King, and the denim vest in her closet with which she cannot part. Katy started blogging whilst working full-time in administration as both an outlet for some creative writing, and an offshoot of her small business, Katy Potaty’s Cupcakes.

Not only does her blog provide you with delicious recipes for sweet treats, Katy also shares a lot of fashion and beauty stuff that she love, and general wittiness about life, travels, planning events, and cool little projects.  If you’d like a little sweet inspiration and a peek into her life, you should check out her blog!

With Katy’s hair, we thought we’d take advantage of gorgeous highlights she’d had done at our Bossy Hair Airport salon and show them off in some beautiful braid work.

TIME NEEDED:10 minutes

WE USED:
STEP ONE – BREAK IT UP
You want to start two braids, so divide the hair roughly in the middle – go with whatever feels more organic so it’s comfortable to wear.

STEP TWO – BRAID AWAY
Start braiding from the top all the way to you have about 5-10cm left to go (or if you’ve got shorter hair, just enough so that you can plait them together).

STEP THREE – WORK IT
You essentially want to ‘massage’ both braids, so they loosen and puff out a little. The braids shouldn’t feel tight.

STEP FOUR – COME TOGETHER
Bring the two braids together and plait them into each other ( just like 2nd grade). Tie with a hair tie at the end.

STEP FIVE – UP, UP AND AWAY
Take the end of the plait and feed it through the gap above where the braids meet and pull through. You may want to do this twice, depending on how long your hair is and how it looks with your hair.

STEP SIX –  PIN UP
Secure with a couple of pins tucked under hair and you’re done! Oktoberfest anyone?

For Yolanda’s hair, we went with a fun, flirty twist on the standard pony tail. This look works  best if you’ve already got a bit of wave or if it’s the day or two after you’ve curled it. Best of all, it’s super easy and takes hardly any time at all!

TIME NEEDED: 2 minutes.

WE USED:

NOTE: Yolanda’s hair was already a little curly from work that day and working on hair with a little bit of texture in it already is best for this look. If you’re starting on clean straight hair, check out how we gave Sarah sexy beach waves.

STEP ONE – GET YOUR PONY ON
Pull your hair into a low pony tail, leaving a section(approx 1/3 of the hair) free at the front left or right (whichever you prefer). Using a comb tease up the front section so it’s got a bit more body.

STEP TWO – COME ON OVER BABY
Pull the hair across and over your ponytail to where it extends just past your hair tie. Create a bend in the section you’ve pulled across and use a bobby pin to secure it leaving the rest of your hair to hang down with your pony tail. Make sure the pin is put in from underneath so that it’s well hidden and it props the hair up.

STEP THREE – HIDE THAT TIE
Using the hair that that was left to fall down with the ponytail, wrap it around your hair tie and secure with another well hidden bobby. You now have a super cute pony – a perfect way to change up your hair for work!

STEP FIVE – THE FINISHING TOUCH
Pull the ends of your hair around and fashion into a chignon knot – secure it with bobby pins placed wherever you feel looks best with your hair.

Abbey is a graphic design and advertising student, as well as a fashion and beauty enthusiast. She runs a blog called Vacant Lake which explores current trends in beauty and style along with her own personal taste and inspiration.

For Abbey’s hair, we went for a rockabilly chic look. This look is super quick and easy, and a great style for girls with shorter styles wanting to try something a little different.

TIME NEEDED: 5 minutes

WE USED:

STEP ONE – GET YOUR CURL ON
Use a GHD to get some big curls happening up near the top front section of your hair. You want to curl “up and away” and leaning slightly to one side – whichever you prefer.

STEP TWO – THROW SOME MAGIC ON IT
Sprinkle some Super Dust by LO’real (we sell it for $23.90) on and work it through your hair. The best way to do this is to use your fingers on the ends like the cash hand gesture. Don’t be scared off by the ‘fro you create.

STEP THREE – MAKING WAVES
Gently use your fingers to direct the big front curls into one distinct curl – you’re looking to create a “wave” at the front of your hair. Secure the end of your hair with a bobby pin, and hairspray to hold. We used Re-Shaper by Sebastian Professional ($32.00 in salon).

STEP FOUR – UP AND AWAY
Use a GHD to create subtle, directional curls that lead up towards your little wave quiff. Secure with hairspray, and you’re good to go!

Brijet is the blog of Jet Accessories owner and designer, Brigitte Hill. The blog started out of a life long love of all things fashion and is Brigitte’s digital journal of her inspirations, explorations, interpretations and fascinations with the artistry of style and the allure of fashion.

For Brigitte’s hair, we went straight for Heidi Klum curls. Full of volume and sass, this look was the perfect match for Brigitte’s personality. And it’s not hard to achieve either!

TIME NEEDED:25 minutes

WE USED:

STEP ONE – LOCK EM UP!
Divide the hair into small sections of enough hair to fit in a hot roller and clip. Gradually roll up all of your hair and secure with a clip (be sure to roll in and under).

STEP TWO – THE INTERMISSION
Once you’ve got all of the hair up, it’s time to play the waiting game for a little while. It’s a great chance to do your makeup while you’re waiting for the curlers to cool.

STEP THREE – GET THOSE BAD BOYS OUT
Unravel your curls gently and get some hairspray on it pronto. We used Wella High Hair for it’s holding strength. Depending on the amount of volume you want, you can either tussle your hair around to give it a bit more body or if you’re after the full blown effect, flip your head over and really tussle it around. Va-voom!

Tegan is the mind behind Tegania’s Thoughts. The blog was born out of the need to do something creative in an increasingly scientific university degree. Tegania’s Thoughts is primarily a product review blog, however Tegan branches out into all forms of beauty such as DIY, make up tutorials and style posts.  Tegan is also the beauty writer for Brisbane Threads, writing about all things beauty in Brisbane.

We could tell that Tegan was a fan of all things vintage, so we went with some cute dry fingercurls to suit her style.

TIME NEEDED: 20 minutes

WE USED:

STEP ONE – CURLS AHOY
Start from the bottom and work your way up and around, creating little ringlet curls on your way. Continue this to the top, until the whole section you’re wanting to have finger curls is curled. Spray with a flexible hairspray like Re-Shaper by Sebastian Professional, available in salon for $32.00.

STEP TWO – BRUSH IT OUT
Gently brush out the curls until you reach a soft, classic look as seen in the pictures below.

STEP THREE – DEFINITION OF
To give your curls a bit more emphasis, place a sectioning clip either side of the significant curls. Using a GHD, clamp down where the curl bends and hold for 5 seconds or so. You will see how this gives the curl more definition and it will hold better for you too. Repeat where necessary.

STEP FOUR – VINTAGE BEAUTY
Secure this look with hairspray, and in this instance we’ve pulled the rest of Tegan’s hair around the back into a side bun. Gorgeous!

This Monday, we packed up our hairspray and bobby pins and headed down the Gold Coast where we did a studio shoot for the collective entries from Bossy Hair. As some of you might remember, Antoinette was finalist last year so we were all very excited to see what she came up with this time around.

Needless to say, the creative juices of the Bossy team where overflowing. There was just so much variety in style and inspiration – we can’t wait to see the final shots! But for now, here’s a couple shots from behind the scenes to give you a little sneak peek at what’s to come.
